This fantastic telescope for visual deep sky observers is available to all interested parties for rent on Farm TIVOLI. Marco Cardin made his dream come true and brought a 24 incher from Italy to Tivoli.
Standard 24" f/5 Dobsonian Telescope
This large Dobsonian telescope, with a diameter of 600 mm and a focal length of 2985 mm, was crafted by Romano Zen in 2010, a renowned optical artisan based in Venice, Italy (Costruzioni Ottiche Zen).
The primary mirror was parabolized in a single phase, resulting in a smooth figure with a star test that shows no signs of concentric corrections, which can occur when the parabolization involves multiple adjustments (a common issue with shorter focal ratios). With good seeing, the telescope's smooth figure yields pinpoint stars at high magnifications, producing pleasant sights of many deep-sky objects, besides the planets of course.
Since its focal ratio is f/5, a coma corrector is not strictly necessary. Lateral aberrations are minimal, even at the edges of an ultra-wide eyepiece. However, customers are always welcome to bring their own paracorr if they prefer.
The secondary mirror has a diameter of 110 mm, resulting in an 18% obstruction, which provides a large, fully illuminated field of view.
Just before shipping the telescope to Namibia, a push-to system was installed, enhancing the overall functionality. So now the optical finder is required for the initial setup only, by aligning with two or three stars.
